Sweet Tooth Already!

The good news is he can't open the wrapper. I'm not sure how he knew what was in the bucket, but he went right for it and tipped it over. He only has two teeth but apparently at least one of them is a sweet tooth.

Dave, Samuel David, and Decorating

This is Dave watching the Jazz game. Our tv is kind of small so to really see what is happening he has to get close to the tv. I just thought it was funny. Dave doesn't sit around and watch sports all day just in case any of you are worried.

This is Sam pulling himself into standing position. It doesn't last very long, but he's working on it.

This is just Sam being cute and smiley.

This is our living room after we put shelves on the wall. I should have taken a "before" picture but I forgot. Thanks to Grandma B for the piano we inherited!

This is Sam's room before we got curtains. He wasn't taking good morning naps and I thought it was because too much light came through the windows in the mornings. Since I couldn't go buy curtains when he was going down for his nap, I improvised. The duct tape, unfortunately, did not last even 2 hours.

This is Sam's room after curtains. He does seem to be having better morning naps at least some of the time so maybe it helped...who knows.

Happy Birthday Dave and Crawling Sam

I'd like to know what he was so excited about. That expression is priceless!

Dave turned 24 on Sunday. Sam was pretty excited about the wrapping paper. It was fun to have Dave's parents and Rachel come down for dinner and presents.

I just think this shirt is great. It came from his Grandma Teresa.

And now what we've all been waiting for: Sam's crawling. These were both taken this morning (Tuesday the ninth). He'll be 6 months old tomorrow.

Sleepy, Soaked, and Stuck Sam

This is Sam's favorite sleeping position: legs tucked under and bum up. We always put him on his back but without fail he ends up in this position.
This was how Dave found Sam one morning. Yest that is his own urine he's soaked in. We've since moved on to bigger diapers.
I love this picture. I was trying to get some things done on the computer so I put Sam in his crib and when I turned back around this is what I saw. He almost looks happy about it.

Sam tries to crawl

Sam's a BYU fan already. He picked this outfit himself for the big game day.

Bring it on Utah. I'm ready for you!

All squeaky clean after his bath.

Sam sits and eats, plus my domestic disaster

This is my domestic disaster. I tried to make home-made bread on Saturday. This was the final product. I don't know where I went wrong...maybe it was because I was watching BYU destroy San Diego State at the same time. I looked about as bad as the bread by the time I gave up and threw it away. Dave comforted me by telling me that I'm not a quitter, I'm just a failure and it's better to be a failure than a quitter. He also surprised me with roses today, so don't be too hard on him. :)
Sam sucked on the tootsie roll for about 5 minutes. It was the only thing that could keep him happy-until we realized that he bit off the end and was sucking on the candy. He wasn't happy after we took it away. Oh well-it seemed like a grand idea for a while.
Sam is beginning to eat "solid foods", i.e. rice cereal. We should have taken a picture the first time we fed him because Dave took over while I fixed dinner and Sam was a big mess after that one.
I think he likes the spoon more than anything. When there isn't a camera in his face he grabs the spoon and pulls it into his mouth.
Sam is also beginning to keep his balance when we sit him up. The other night he wobbled back and forth for a couple of minutes before he finally fell over. The video shows a less successful sitting practice for Sam.

Sam is fascinated by the mirror. He loves to look at himself.

When he can't find anything else to put in his mouth he goes for the toes.

I think his bellybutton looks like a cinnamon roll.

Trying to break free of the crib.
Showing the zebra toy some love. Kissy kissy.

Awkward Hinmans

My family will probably send me hate mail for posting this, but I found this and thought it was so funny. (Sorry Christy...you are in this one now. I decided this was even better than the other one. ) :)

Mostly Sam-his first Red Vine and other fun

Well these are all out of order, but they're still cute.  There are just some cute pictures of Sam holding himself up.  I also gave him a red vine the other day, against my better judgement.  He seemed to like it.  There's also a picture of the witches broom bag of treats I made that I copied from Christy's blog.  Mine didn't look as good as the one Christy showed on her blog...but I'm no Martha Stewart.

Who Says Moms Worry More?

So on most nights Sam will sleep in his crib (he's moved on from the box now) until the first time he wakes up, usually between 2:30 and 4:30.  After I finish feeding him I'm usually too lazy to take him back to the crib in the other room so I just put him next to me to sleep.  I always try to be careful that he's sleeping on his back and can't pull any sheets over his face.  I used to think since I was the one waking up at night that I was the only one worrying about him, but I'm learning that is not the case:

Last night Dave went to sleep around 11:00 while I put Sam to sleep.  It took me a while to fall asleep afterwards, and I read until about 12:40.  At about 12:30 Dave suddenly pushed up off his stomach, looked right at me and said, "I hope we don't squish Sam."  I laughed and explained that he wasn't even in the bed.  Dave kind of stared at me for a second, put his head down, and then back up again to look at me again.  He then tugged at the pillow behind my head and said, "He's right here...he's behind you."  Then he laid back down, sound asleep, and didn't respond to my laughter and questions.

A couple of months ago we had a similar experience.  This time we were both asleep and Dave suddenly shoved his arms under me like a forklift.  I started awake but fell back asleep before I even knew what had happened.  Then he did the same thing a couple of hours later.  This time I asked him, "What are you doing?!"  He replied, "Just making sure you're not sleeping on Sam-it's silly I know."  Of course he had no idea he had done this the next morning.

I dunno...I just think he's cute.

Like Father Like Son...and like Mother like Son

We hope Sam is like his Dad in lots of ways, but both of them had their eyes fixed on the football game.  Sam loves tv already...this could be trouble.

Sam is also like his mom...always thinking about food, even in his sleep.

Happy Birthday Grandma Edwards

These are pictures from Grandma Edwards 84th birthday party.  Her first 3 great grandchildren were born this summer.

This was the day before Uncle Chan and Aunt Dede went into the MTC for their mission to Geneva, Switzerland. It was fun to see them and we admire them for answering the call to serve!

Since we moved back to Orem we returned the bassinet we borrowed from the Harrisons. This is Sam's new bed until he's sleeping through the night and then he'll go to the crib. He sleeps just fine in it and doesn't even know there's anything wrong with sleeping in a box.

We went to Colorado Springs last weekend to visit Dave's brother Spencer at the Air Force Academy. These are some of the pictures from this weekend. Dave just reminded me that pictures are better than words and videos are better than pictures, so maybe we'll try to get some more videos on here.

I just think this picture of Sam is adorable.
We took a train in the Royal Gorge. Sam was pretty excited about it.
I'm not sure what Dave's expression says, but Spencer was happy to see us I think.
Grandpa and Dave carry Sam through the Garden of the Gods. It's basically like a mini Moab.
The Christensens are Spencer's Sponsor Family at the AFA. They were very kind and hospitable to us. We attended their ward and they fed us afterwards and also went to the Garden of the Gods. Deandra is holding Sam and Greg teaches Russian at the AFA.

Spencer thought Sam looked the same as he did the last time he saw him two months ago. Little does he know Sam grew 6 inches and nearly 5 lbs from birth to his 2 month appointment!

Sam has been rolling over on our bed, but this morning he did it for the first time on the floor...I don't know if that makes a difference or not. It's also the first time we got it on camera. He also slept through the night last night from 10:45ish to 6 this morning. It was wonderful! Unfortunately I woke up at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. It was still nice though.

Sam is smiling more and more. His happiest time is in the morning after he has slept, eaten, and pooped. :) These are a few pictures from this morning.
